Finding time in the winter months at a rural library isn't always a big problem. Sub zero or even single digit temperatures tend to keep people at home unless there is a snowstorm on the way. Then it will be busy because they simply must get books/videos to tough out the storm...But I really am enjoying this process of learning at my own pace and becoming a librarian more in tune with what is going on on the internet, so I foresee using plenty of my own down time at home to continue the process.
I ignored the info on 23 Things for awhile. Once I decided to check it out I was sold. I have teens and preteens and am passionate about them not knowing more than I know about the internet...It's always good to stay at least one step ahead of them!
I don't know what I don't know, therefore I'm not sure what I want to get out of it. However, as I said, I do want to know more than my kids know, so I'd better get busy!
The internet has affected my personal life in that it has opened up a new world of information for me. I have a special needs child and have been able to access so much more information to meet his needs and my own as far as a support system goes. I am spending more time online as a result...Professionally, I have been able to assist library patrons in finding information they need when they need it because the internet opens so many more doors. With only 2 public computers and kids that come in only for internet time, I find myself helping more people find what they need/want online all the time.
